Le 14 Juillet 1969 I arrived in Brittany on a French exchange to be whisked off to a lunch of langoustine which I had no idea what to do with, nor did I know about Bastille Day. Very memorable, gave me a love of seafood and France. Never looked back.

It’s the well flavoured mushrooms that might be a challenge in the UK today.
